Does ranking of Universities matter?

Yes…. and No! It depends upon a number of factors. For example, which ranking is important to you. Yes, there is more than one ranking table. Often ranking is presented by agencies and others as if there was only one table to view and then to make a decision. This is not the case. There are tables for all aspects of University work. You need to decide what matters to you the most. In fact, many of the tables tell you how ‘good’ a University is based on a set criteria. The question you have to ask yourself is if this (ranking) criteria is the same as your criteria? The next question is how the ranking table you are viewing will affect your learning experience. In a number of cases, the ranking tables will have no direct bearing on what you learn and how you learn. So, in short, ranking matters but as not as much as we often are led to believe.
